Microsoft has:

• enabled COM components to look like Java classes and vice versa.
• pulled COM development for Sun and Silicon Graphics inhouse.
• licensed IONA to bridge COM/IIOP.

• standardizing CORBA and non-CORBA technologies.
• developing a JavaBeans based component model standard.
• voting on a business object architecture standard.
